NEW SKILLS: MARY-JEAN

Mary-Jean uses her daily picture schedule to decide what she wants to do at Centre 404's day service, regularly choosing cookery sessions. After spending 8 months practising making and decorating fairy cakes, she now sells them at the Friday Night Social. She has been surprising her family by using more complex sentences and has shown an increased desire to be more independent.

“Since being at Centre 404, Mary-Jean has developed in her speech and thinking abilities, resulting in her being able to do more for herself. She seems to be able to understand more than she could before. I think her development is because staff communicate a lot with Mary-Jean and try to teach her different things. It helps that Centre 404 works together with our family”

Mary-Jean’s sister, Brenda
