An Evening with Jean 14/02/2017

Thumb jean

On Wednesday 25 January, our Chair Jean Willson presented a talk to over 40 guests about the history of Centre 404 and her experiences growing up in the borough of Islington, and as a family carer.

Jean took her audience through the decades introducing it with music. She spoke about what was happening in the decade; what her family was doing; what was happening in the learning disability world, and how the centre was founded and grew.

Jean has been involved with Centre 404 for over 40 years, and an associated exhibition was displayed in the main hall where the talk was held documenting the history of the charity. This included information and pictures from when it was first founded by family carers of people with learning disabilities who were struggling to access the support they needed, and the involvement of our Patron Jeremy Corbyn over the years.

The evening was very informative and entertaining and was being held as a fundraiser to help raise money for a new play structure to be built in the garden of Centre 404 in memory of Victoria and Lisa. While the event was free entry it raised an incredible £950 taking our total so far to an impressive £37,456. Jean would like to thank everyone who came for their generosity.

We are so close to raising the £50,000 we need to build the play structure, if you would like to make a donation to help us reach our target please go to: www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/centre-404/playstructure

Arsenal Players visit Centre 404 for Christmas! 23/12/2016

Thumb arsenal centre404

Thursday 22nd December was an extremely special day at Centre 404 as we were privileged to have players from Arsenal give up their time and come and spend the afternoon with our children who were taking part in the Christmas Playscheme.

Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck, Laurent Koscielny and Francis Coquelin spent a couple of hours with our children’s group designing Christmas t-shirts, doing arts and crafts, signing cards and also giving out amazing presents!

Arriving with Centre 404 branded stockings, in Arsenal colours of course, the footballers gave out presents individually to each child and even took some time to learn some makaton.

The atmosphere was amazing and the kids were super excited and couldn’t stop smiling. ‘This is the best day of my life’ was overheard quite a few times demonstrating just what an impact the footballers made.

We would like to say a big thank you to The Arsenal Foundation for arranging this wonderful afternoon and thank you to all the players for giving up their time so close to Christmas.

Only one week left to apply for a place on the London Marathon!22/12/2016

Thumb day service

This year it is 65 years since Centre 404 was founded by a group of family carers who felt marginalised and isolated as there was no support for carers of people with learning disabilities. In the 65 years since we have developed into a support centre that provides services for the whole family, working with over 2,000 people a year.

We couldn’t have done this without the support of people who have given their time and money to ensure that people with learning disabilities and their families get access to the help that they need.

We are looking for one incredible person to take on this challenge of a lifetime for us and run the London Marathon.

We are asking you to commit to raising £1,500 plus a non-refundable £100 registration fee.

If you think you are up to the challenge or would like to know more then please get in touch by emailing general@centre404.org.uk with your contact details and a short description of why you want to take part and your previous fundraising experience.

Deadline to apply is Monday 23rd January at 5p.m.
